Hotel overview

Set in a peaceful location about a five minute drive outside of Canmore, this delightful B&B is designed to make the most of the mountain surrounds, with full views from the garden of the Three Sisters and Lawrence Grassi Massif. The property has just two rooms:- downstairs the Garden Suite is spacious with a private entrance and outdoor seating area which looks over a small park behind the house. Upstairs the Mountain Lily Suite has views towards the mountains and a small outdoor deck, also with private entrance. A full, home-cooked breakfast is served either in the comfortable kitchen area or, more often, on the balcony in the morning sun. The hosts, Dave and Mary-Jane, are avid lovers of the outdoors and can recommend any number of local walks or other activities in the area. If you are looking for some authentic Canadian hosting then this is the place to stay.

Horseriding in Banff

Escape in to the mountains on horseback as you journey along the meandering rivers and scenic valleys around Banff, exploring various points of interest along the way. You can choose from either a one, two or three hour trail ride, all offering magnificent views whilst your guide chats at intervals about the area and keeps an eye out for any passing wildlife. The riding is suitable for beginners as well as experienced riders who are happy to simply soak up the beautiful scenery at a lovely, relaxed pace.

Banff Guided Tour with Gondola & Cruise

This six-hour guided tour introduces you to the spectacular scenery around Banff, surrounded by towering mountains and scenic valley vistas. You’ll stop to view the fascinating wind-swept hoodoos at Surprise Corner, take in the breathtaking views from Tunnel Mountain Drive, and ride the Banff Gondola, which whisks you up the side of Sulphur Mountain for incredible panoramic views of the Bow Valley. The tour concludes with a scenic and historical cruise on Lake Minnewanka, the second-longest lake in the Canadian Rockies. As you glide across the serene waters, you’ll learn about the lake’s natural history and its role in shaping the local community. Throughout the tour, your driver/guide will provide engaging commentary and point out key sights, ensuring you gain a deeper understanding of Banff’s natural attractions and history.

Rocky Mountaineer

The journey between the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific West is considered one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world, and taking the Rocky Mountaineer is an incredible way to experience it. The most popular route spans two days between Vancouver and either Banff or Jasper, with an overnight stop in Kamloops. Alternatively, you can extend the experience to three days by including Whistler in your journey, with a short train ride between Vancouver and Whistler, and overnight stops in both Whistler and Quesnel. Whichever route you choose, you’ll be treated to diverse and spectacular landscapes, including sparkling lakes, river canyons, forested hillsides, and towering mountains. The Rocky Mountaineer offers two classes of service to suit different preferences. In SilverLeaf, seating is in a single-level, glass-domed carriage with oversized windows, providing stunning views. Delicious hot meals are served to your seat, and snacks and beverages are included throughout the journey. Overnight accommodation is in a 3-star hotel. In GoldLeaf, you’ll enjoy a premium experience with seats on the upper level of a two-level, glass-domed coach featuring full-length panoramic windows. Gourmet meals are served in an exclusive dining room on the lower level, and all snacks and beverages are included. Overnight accommodation is in a 4-star hotel, with transfers to and from your hotel provided for both classes.

Evening Wildlife Safari

This two hour tour takes you in to Banff National Park to look for a variety of animals that live in this protected area. You are accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who will provide commentary on the background to the park and the current threats to the wildlife within it. Some of the most commonly sighted animals are big horn sheep, elk and osprey and on occasion black bears are also seen. There are also some fantastic views along the way and you will stop at a scenic stop for a photo opportunity. The tour departs early evening to catch the animals as they move around at dusk.

Banff and Canmore - Ideas for Free Time

This southern end of the Rockies is a haven for outdoor activities, and once you’ve taken a few deep breaths of the magnificent scenery, you can dive right in. There are many walking trails around both Canmore and Banff that can be tackled on your own, many leading to splendid vantage points. Maps are available from the tourist information centres, or you can join a guided walk with a local expert. A particularly popular spot is Johnston Canyon, where Johnston Creek tumbles impressively over limestone rocks into the gulley below. A scenic walkway hugs the canyon walls, and for those who venture further, it leads into pretty meadows above the falls. We recommend visiting early in the day to avoid the crowds. Taking to horseback is another lovely way to appreciate the scenery around Banff and Canmore. Gentle rides are available, taking you along valley floors and across the lower mountain slopes, providing a unique equine perspective on the beautiful surroundings. Nearby, the Cave & Basin National Historic Site is a collection of hot springs that have been known to Indigenous peoples for thousands of years but were more recently "discovered" by Canadian Pacific Railway workers. To protect the heritage of this spot, bathing in the thermal waters is not allowed. However, there is an interpretive boardwalk and a small museum explaining how the discovery of the hot springs led to the creation of Banff National Park and modern-day Banff. If you wish to take a dip, the Banff Upper Hot Springs nearby offers hot pools, steam rooms, and a spa, all with excellent mountain views. For further cultural insight, the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies in Banff has an excellent collection of artwork, photographs, and exhibits depicting the history of the town and the national park, as well as showcasing local and international talent. Finally, whether Banff is your first or last stop in the Rockies, we highly recommend a trip on the Banff Gondola to put the landscape into perspective. From the observation deck at the summit, you’ll enjoy superb views of the surrounding mountain ranges and the Bow River Valley winding its way into the distance.
