Hotel overview

The Hotel Shediac is recent addition to the town’s accommodation portfolio. The property was designed to be comfortable, modern and chic but takes inspiration from the sea-faring history and early air travel connections of the area. Rooms have plenty of space with a workspace, coffee and tea making facilities, mini-fridge and microwave. St James’ Gate restaurant is located on the second floor and offers quality, pub-style fare alongside an interesting selection of tap beers, whilst Café Bistro is open at lunchtimes for a quick lunch-hour service. There is a small indoor pool and fitness centre and a small shop where you can buy a selection of snacks and souvenirs. A complimentary buffet breakfast is included.

Shediac Bay Lobster Cruise

If you like lobster then this two-and-a-half hour boat trip is a must-do. Join your captain and cruise out on to Shediac Bay for an educational and culinary experience all in one. Through informal and sometimes entertaining commentary from your guide you will learn about the history and ecology of the famous New Brunswick lobster industry, then learn how to crack and eat a freshly cooked lobster. After eating enjoy the scenery of the bay as you relax on the upper deck whilst listening to some traditional Acadian music.

Kouchibouguac National Park

Resisting the urge to pronounce it "koo-she-boujee," Kouchibouguac National Park is located on the east coast of New Brunswick, between Moncton and Miramichi, making it a fantastic stop on this route. This hidden gem blends natural beauty, outdoor adventure, and cultural significance. Actually pronounced “Koo-she-boo-gwack,” the park’s name comes from the Mi’kmaq word meaning "river of long tides" and is renowned for its sand dunes, salt marshes, and warm coastal lagoons. Be sure to visit Kellys Beach, where a leisurely stroll along the boardwalks takes you over the sand dunes and into stunning coastal views. The park is also a haven for wildlife, including grey seals, beavers, and an impressive variety of bird species, with herons and ospreys being particularly popular sightings. If you’re here as the sun sets, you’re in for a treat. As one of Canada’s designated dark sky preserves, the park offers incredible opportunities for stargazing and night photography. Kouchibouguac is a perfect stop for those looking for a quieter, less-travelled alternative to busier national parks.

Moncton & Shediac - ideas for free time

Moncton is a vibrant and busy city and whilst it lacks the historical districts that other New Brunswick towns and cities have, its heritage is brought to life through a number of cultural institutions and museums. Worth visiting if you have time are the Moncton Museum and the Transportation Discovery Centre, which between them give an insight in to the various industries and cultures that have shaped the city. Additionally, the Musée Adacian at the University of Moncton tells the interesting story of the resilient Acadian settlers through a range of exhibits, guided tours and historical documentaries. For a place to stretch your legs Centennial Park offers a peaceful refuge in the middle of the city, and nearby Magnetic Hill winery is a great spot for lunch with a view and a fine glass of local wine. In Shediac you will naturally be drawn to the ocean, whether you simply stroll along the beautiful Parlee Beach or take to the water on a lobster cruise. The town is also brimming with quaint trinket shops boutique art galleries, and restaurants serving mouth-watering seafood so allow some time to meander here.
