Around 30 minutes’ drive north of Agadir you’ll find the laid-back little village of Taghazout. Known predominantly for being a surfers’ paradise, Taghazout is home to a beautiful sandy beach and since a handful of travellers have been coming here for some time to hit the waves, there is a small but strong collection of cafes, bars and restaurants dotted around the village. Surf shops and yoga studios line the streets, and a simple and relaxed way of life is championed by both locals and expats alike.

In terms of accommodation, there are no traditional charming riads which you’d find in abundance further up the coast in the fishing town of Essaouira. However, it arguably has much better beaches and proper resort hotels with all the facilities you need from a beach holiday: large swimming pools, award-winning spa, fitness centre, multiple restaurants with alcohol license, sea view rooms, good family room options, and a sea that’s safe for swimming in.
