The golden city of Jaisalmer sits majestically in the far west of Rajasthan; its sandstone fort soars above the dusty Thar desert and its walls envelop a labyrinth of twisting narrow streets, still inhabited today.
Aside from being a long way from anywhere, it is a magnificent place, and few cities in India evoke such mystery and intrigue. Time stands still in this frontier land, bordering Pakistan. There is a slow pace to live, and if you have the time we highly recommend coming west to see the only living fort in India, and not only that, you can stay in one of the corner turrets. Utterly romantic!
For many a camel ride out into the dunes is what you imagine when you think of the Thar Desert. Rest assured you can enjoy the desert on Jeep safari to experience sunset on the dunes.
