Kayaking on Lake Arenal

You will be collected from your hotel for the short drive out of La Fortuna town to the shores of Lake Arenal, the second largest lake in Central America. This vast expanse of water set against a backdrop of dense forests lends itself to a very scenic kayaking expedition, of approximately three hours in duration. You will be led by an expert local guide, and all equipment is supplied as well as cold drinks and a snack of tropical fruits.

Arenal mountain biking

Your mountain biking excursion today will begin with a relaxing ride through tropical forest on a paved road, along the old route that used to connect the Arenal Dam with the main entrance to the volcano national park. From here you will continue towards the village of El Castillo, biking on a quiet road surrounded by dense forest and cattle farms, where you may be able to hear the distant calls of toucans and howler monkeys. Depending on the conditions and preferences of the rest of the group, the final section of cycling make take you across the dam and along a scenic stretch along the north shore of Lake Arenal. The maximum distance covered on this excursion is eight miles and it is suitable for all abilities.

Sloth Tour

Arenal area is well known for its diverse wildlife, including the two different sloth species; the two-toed sloths and three-toed sloths. Black eye patches and “smiling” mouths distinguish Costa Rica’s docile three-toed sloths, while the larger two-toed variety have white-ringed faces, brown snouts and shaggy coats. Sloths are especially unique in that they spend nearly their entire lives hanging upside down in a tree; they sleep, eat, mate and even give birth upside down! With your certified naturalist guide, an expert at locating wildlife and extremely knowledgeable in their field you will go on a search for these beautiful animals around La Fortuna's beautiful Sloth spotting areas, you will also have a chance encounter of toucans, red blue jeans poison dart frogs, hummingbirds, iguanas and monkeys.

Arenal Hanging Bridges

This complex of 16 hanging bridges and fixed canopy walkways spread across three kilometres offers a fascinating glimpse of the rainforest from a different perspective. The experience of strolling along at an elevated height admiring the panorama across the tree tops is a thoroughly enjoyable one, and the forest here is home to a wide variety of flora, fauna and birds. We include the services of an expert naturalist guide in your tour which brings the experience alive as they are usually able to find birds, insects and amphibians hiding in the undergrowth, which appear almost invisible at first glance.

White water rafting on the Balsa River

You will be collected from your hotel this morning for your exciting white water rafting excursion on the Balsa River. The rapids here are usually between classes 2 and 3, making them a great option for families, and in addition to navigating the rolling rapids there will be also be the opportunity to swim in tranquil river pools. A picnic lunch is included, as well as a refuelling stop of tropical fruits set in the beautiful surroundings of this secluded rainforest river canyon.
