For us a “classic” trip is one that incorporates the major highlights, but also allows a little time for relaxation and includes one or two lesser-known destinations or activities to give you a more rounded experience of Borneo.
Starting or ending in Kuala Lumpur or Singapore allows for easy connections if coming from the UK. From here you can hop over to Sarawak for time to explore Kuching and meet the Iban tribes of Batang Ai. If time permits add in a visit to Mulu National Park for a cave exploration before venturing into Sabah, where the wildlife and jungle adventures await. Trek the trails around Danum Valley or cruises the Kinabatangan River as you search out orangutan or pygmy elephant. End your classic escape with tropical island vibes at Gaya Island or head back to peninsular Malaysia to explore the east or west coast.
