Hotel overview

Forget everything that you think you know about what a tent or a tented camp might be, this is not a camping trip in the lakes, this is luxury, absolute luxury. The camp moves twice a year to follow the movements of the migration so whatever time of year you travel you are sure to be close to the action. Staff here are excellent, their knowledge and passion are infectious, and they will do whatever they can to make your stay special, and special it will be. The main mess tent houses a lovely lounge, bar, pleasant dining area and just outside is the camp fire, the perfect pre-dinner area for a drink and snack.

The 9 tents/rooms are enormous and very comfortable, you wont want to leave! Each tent comes with an en-suite bathroom with flushing toilet and a clever gravity shower as well as an enclosed veranda or day bed area. This is definitely a firm favourite with us and never fails to disappoint, we couldnt recommend it more.

Hot Air Balloon over the Serengeti

There really is nothing quite like gliding silently over the vast plains of the Serengeti as the sun comes up. No pictures can do the experience justice and, even if you weren’t to see any wildlife during your hot air balloon ride (as unlikely as that may be), you would not feel hard done by. The experience starts very early, as you are collected from your hotel or lodge to meet at the launch site before sunrise; although the exact direction and duration of the flight are dependent on the winds, the average flight time is one hour, with part of the flight reaching at least 1000 feet which gives some incredible panoramic photo opportunities. Following the flight, you will celebrate with champagne and an English breakfast under a tree in an unforgettable setting. You will then be taken back to your collection point where your safari guide will be waiting to take you on a game drive back to your lodge. Whilst undeniably an expensive excursion, this really is a once in a lifetime experience and worth pushing the boat out for.

4x4 Game Drives

There is nothing more exciting than setting off at sunrise for a game drive with your professional guide, the cool air of the morning adding to the anticipation and excitement of what the day will bring. All of our guides for Tanzania are trained to the highest level, with incredible knowledge of the country’s flora and fauna; this knowledge is not limited to the larger mammals, but includes the wider bio system and how each and every bird, animal, plant and insect plays their part in the circle of life. Game drives are often split into morning and afternoon activities, with the earlier slot departing as the sun rises and returning you to your camp or lodge mid-morning. The afternoon safari activity usually departs at around 15.30-16.00 and returns just after sunset. Some camps and lodges offer full day game drives for those that want to explore a little further afield, where you can bring a picnic lunch and find a shady spot to rest and enjoy it in the wilderness. Whether you choose a morning, afternoon or full day safari activity, you are sure to see something new on each and every game drive; keep your eyes peeled, because you never know what’s just around the next corner or bush…

Cradle of Mankind, Oldavai Gorge, Serengeti

Located in the south of the Serengeti National Park, Olduvai Gorge is famed for a playing host to a rich treasure-trove of human and animal fossils that date back to the beginning of human life. Few places in the world can match the Serengeti’s long human history, earning this part of Africa the title ‘Cradle of Mankind’. A museum and visitor centre overlook the gorge, offering regular talks by local antiquities guides on the area. This is a fascinating place and well worth a visit if you are staying anywhere near the area. Pre-booking is not necessary but please check to see if a visit is possible in your itinerary: if so, ask your safari guide to visit there during a safari activity and explore this intriguing place!
