Located in the south of the Serengeti National Park, Olduvai Gorge is famed for a playing host to a rich treasure-trove of human and animal fossils that date back to the beginning of human life. Few places in the world can match the Serengeti’s long human history, earning this part of Africa the title ‘Cradle of Mankind’. A museum and visitor centre overlook the gorge, offering regular talks by local antiquities guides on the area.
This is a fascinating place and well worth a visit if you are staying anywhere near the area. Pre-booking is not necessary but please check to see if a visit is possible in your itinerary: if so, ask your safari guide to visit there during a safari activity and explore this intriguing place!
