Set within a large working coconut plantation, Horathapola offers wonderful seclusion and relaxation at the beginning or end of a trip in Sri Lanka. Owners Javana and Pia Fernando converted the magical plantation bungalow into a guesthouse beautifully. Think antique style furniture, old photos and white washed walls. There are plenty of things to do such as cycling and exploring local villages, a cool crisp pool to dip into, and lots of shady areas to enjoy a book. The food is wonderful, traditional and very flexible.
There are seven rooms in total spread between the main house and the gardens. Inside the house you’ll find the Master Suite, which has a huge four- poster bed, polished wooden floors, antique furniture and a beautiful big bathroom. There’s also a Family Suite, which sits on the corner of the house. This has two bedrooms; one has a double bed with a room for a single bed, and there’s a second bedroom with a small double. There are two bathrooms so it’s perfect for both families and friends travelling together. Downstairs in the main house you’ll also find the Garden Room, which is perfect for couples. Within the grounds sits the Pond Room, this is more contemporary and private with a veranda and a polished concrete bed. Tucked away further is the Family Lodge. This is large with two separate bedrooms.
