Tucked onto a hillside overlooking Kandy, Elephant Stables is a lovingly restored colonial home. Adigar Sir Cuda Ratwatte, a Ceylonese nobleman and one of few Sri Lankan’s to receive a British knighthood, originally owned the property and it’s been passed through many hands since. Now a beautiful and stylish boutique hotel, the glorious history and old world charm is evident throughout the house.
Located just 15 minutes along a private road from the centre of Kandy, Elephant Stables provides a wonderful retreat after a day exploring the cultural highlights of the city. Surrounded by lush rolling hills and with views of the Knuckles Mountain Range, this boutique property offers its guests a stylish and relaxing home in which to unwind and enjoy the famed Sri Lankan hospitality.
All of the rooms feature chic artwork and colonial interiors, and feature four-poster beds and verandas with comfortable outdoor furnishings. While those looking for a quiet corner to relax in can enjoy the Reading Room’s selection of books and board games.
The on-site restaurant provides guests with a range of dishes and cuisines. Breakfasts on offer include both full English and continental, alongside more authentic local dishes such as ‘Hopper’ breakfast or coconut pancakes with curry, while light lunch dishes or afternoon tea can be enjoyed on the manicured lawn.
