Santiago is teaming with dense vegetation, scalesia forests, a fur seal grotto and a volcano. Once inhabited, Puerto Egas was once a salt mining area with a black sand beach, while Espumilla is home to nesting sea turtles. Inhabitants introduced livestock which devastated the landscape, so today it is rather barren although it is returning slowly following conservation efforts.
