Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley)

Just a short drive from San Pedro de Atacama, the rugged, lunar-like landscapes of Moon Valley are one of the desert's true highlights. This dramatic area includes enormous, sweeping sand dunes, deep valleys and salt caves. Another distinctive feature are the many fascinating geological rock formations, which have been created through water and wind erosion as well as extreme desert temperatures. This excursion lasts for roughly three hours, including a 40-minute walk.
