Cachi & Calchaqui Valley

Depart from Salta by private 4wd vehicle from Salta, driving along the most spectacular road as you make your way through four ecosystems from the green jungle of the Yungas to the semi-desert Calchaqui Valley and to the foothills of the Andes at 3,400 metres above sea level as condors soar above. Expect to see guanacos and wild donkeys among thousands of giant cacti and cross red desert landscapes before arriving in the pretty square of colonial Cachi village (although the locals thinks of this as the ’city’ so un-populated is the area), where the sun shines most of the year and it’s a great spot to sit under a shady tree and watch local life unfold in this enchanting true norteño style adobe village backed by snowy mountain peaks and high-altitude wineries.
