For us a “classic” trip is one that incorporates the major highlights, but also allows a little time for relaxation and includes one or two lesser-known destinations or activities to give you a more rounded experience of South Africa. Cape Town is an essential part of almost any trip to South Africa, and from there, it’s a logical route to move eastwards along the Garden Route, concluding with a safari either in the Eastern Cape, or Kruger. A journey like this is improved with the addition of time somewhere like The Winelands or the unspoilt De Hoop Nature Reserve. Further afield, the battlefields and Drakensberg Mountains of KwaZulu-Natal are always popular and never disappoint.
