This is a brilliant “best of both worlds” day out of Campbell River, combining time on the water at paddling pace with a dedicated whale watching cruise. It’s ideal if you want a more active wildlife experience, but still like the comfort of getting offshore with an expert crew and proper viewing opportunities.
You’ll start with a guided kayaking excursion, exploring calm coastal channels and inlets where wildlife is often spotted at close range. Moving quietly through the water gives you a completely different perspective, with the chance to see the coastline come alive around you, whether that’s seabirds overhead, seals nearby, or the occasional bear on the shoreline.
Later in the day you’ll head out on a small covered whale watching vessel with an open viewing deck, cruising through prime marine habitat. This area is known for humpback and orca sightings, and it’s also common to see dolphins, seals and a whole cast of other coastal wildlife along the way.
Lunch is included, along with hot drinks and a light snack, so it’s a full day that feels like a proper adventure without needing to think about the logistics. Wildlife can never be guaranteed, but if you’re looking for a memorable, active day that shows off the very best of Vancouver Island’s marine environment, this is a standout option.
