Tamarac Island Inn

Tamarac Island Inn is a wonderfully peaceful, nature-led stay on Lake Huron, set on its own little island on Ontario’s Bruce Peninsula. The property stretches across both sides of Tamarac Island, which is a lovely touch, it means you can catch sunrise in the morning and then wander round for sunset in the evening, all without ever leaving the grounds. It’s a proper switch-off kind of place, with water on every side and that calm, “end of the day feels longer” pace you get by the lake.

Accommodation is varied, which makes it handy for different group sizes, ranging from newly renovated motel-style rooms through to larger villa and cottage options. The motel rooms are simple and comfortable, each with air conditioning, a queen bed plus futon, mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker, with sliding doors out to a shared deck for easy lake views and fresh air. If you’re travelling as a larger group or family, the villa set-up is much more of a house-style stay, with a big sunroom sitting area, a full kitchen and dining space, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, plus generous decks, a private BBQ, a fire pit and even EV charging, alongside full access to the island’s waterfront and activities. The standalone cottage is a great in-between option, open-plan with a full kitchen, a queen bedroom plus a loft with two single beds, and two private decks. It faces west, so it’s perfectly placed for those classic Lake Huron sunsets. There’s also a duplex option made up of two self-contained cottages, one with three bedrooms and one with two, which works well if you want space but still like being close together.

What really makes Tamarac Island Inn shine is how easy it is to spend your days outside. You can swim, fish, and get out on the water straight from the dock with kayaks, canoes and paddle boats, and there’s also a beach area, a boat launch, fire pits and BBQs, plus an outdoor kitchen for relaxed evenings. WiFi and parking are included, and check-in is typically between 3pm and 7pm, with arrangements possible for later arrivals if you contact the property. It’s also worth noting there’s a minimum three-night stay required over holiday long weekends.
