Hotel overview

The Lord Elgin is one of Ottawa's oldest hotels, a landmark building that was constructed in the 1940s to give the city a lift during World War II. The property has retained its historic feel but offers guests modern comfort and excellent service. The guestrooms have traditional décor alongside flatscreen TVs, mini-fridge and i-home docking stations, and with the option of one queen or two double beds. There is a small café onsite and a gift shop for all your local souvenirs, and the fitness centre boasts a lap pool, whirlpool, sauna and gym. The hotel is in a fantastic central location, across the road from Confederation Park and a couple of blocks from the parliament buildings, making it a great value base for your time here.

Ottawa Rideau Canal Cruise

The Rideau Canal is a chain of beautiful lakes, rivers and canals winding 202 km from Kingston, at the head of Lake Ontario, to Ottawa, Canada’s capital city. On this one and a half hour cruise, you will discover this charming UNESCO World Heritage Site on the stretch from Dow’s lake to the Ottawa River. Visitors can learn about the region, its history and rich cultural heritage whilst on board a brand-new 100% electric vessel, which is the only one of its kind.

Via Rail Corridor Service

The Corridor services operated by Canada’s national rail network shuttle between the eastern cities of Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec. This offers a fantastic alternative to driving, giving you the opportunity to relax and take in the scenery as it whizzes past. Trains have large panoramic windows and offer either comfortable economy class seats or the more spacious business class seats, which also come with a complimentary meal, glass of wine, newspapers and tea/coffee. Power outlets for computers or other devices are available in both classes.

Following the raft trip, you’ll enjoy a tasty barbeque meal aboard a pontoon boat cruise that will take the group back to the departure point, after a change of clothes. Relax and re-energise while you cruise back to the rafting base via the historical route of the First Nations, the Voyageurs and the Log Drive, viewing the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield. Also included are life jacket, helmet and rafting video presentation of the trip. No experience is necessary.

Ottawa City Cycling Tour

Ottawa is a fantastic city to explore by bike, with many dedicated cycle paths, quiet leafy streets and an almost flat landscape. On this two-hour guided tour you will explore some of its best known sights whilst learning about the history and architecture. You will pedal along the canal path and through pretty gardens, stopping at some great viewpoints whilst your guide shares information and personal insights to ensure you get the most of your time in the capital. This excursion is suitable for all abilities and you can expect to ride a total of around 15-20 kilometres, with plenty of stops along the way.

Ottawa River Cruise

This lovely Ottawa River cruise offers the finest views along the waterway. With departures from the Hull Marina in Jacques Cartier Park and the Ottawa Dock, located at the foot of the Ottawa Locks, this one and a half hour boat trip is the most thorough tour available on the water. The vessel Paula D, is ideal for an excursion of this type. You can relax and enjoy a hot or cold beverage on the large upper deck and on the lower deck you will find a nice snack bar (with permission to sell alcohol). The cruise offers a spectacular view of the city and allows you to see the river as it was used long ago: as a highway to transport resources. You will also see the natural beauty of the region that captured the imagination of the first European explorer, Samuel de Champlain.
