Lantern Hill & Hollow is a wonderfully scenic place to stay on the Cabot Trail at Ingonish Beach, set on a private, six-acre oceanfront plot with manicured lawns, landscaped grounds and direct access to the Atlantic. It has a calm, coastal feel, with the main guest house sitting up on the hill and the cottages closer to the shoreline, so you really do get that sense of space and sea air all around you.
Accommodation is split between a handful of cottages and a small number of guest rooms (the inn rooms are adults-only, with a minimum age of 12). Both options are comfortable and well equipped, with simple, practical touches for an easy stay, including TVs, coffee makers, mini fridges and hairdryers. If you’d like a bit more room to spread out, the Queen Suite is the standout, with a separate sitting room, an electric fireplace and ocean views.
The location works brilliantly for Cape Breton Highlands National Park too, with the park entrance only a short drive away, and you’re also close to one of the area’s best stretches of wide sandy beach. It’s a great base if you want to spend your days on the Cabot Trail, hiking and sightseeing, then come back to somewhere peaceful with the ocean right there. WiFi and parking are included, keeping things straightforward.
