Black Forest Cabins is a new, design-led cabin stay in Mahone Bay, set in a quiet patch of woodland just a short walk from the waterfront and the town’s cafés, shops and galleries. It’s a lovely balance of feeling surrounded by trees, while still being close enough to dip into the buzz of this small South Shore favourite.
The cabins themselves are compact and cleverly laid out, with a Scandinavian-inspired look and plenty of natural light. There are eight self-contained cabins, each designed for two, with air conditioning, a king bed, a window bench and a kitchenette that’s ideal for keeping things simple and flexible. You’ve also got thoughtful in-room touches like a TV and a Sonos speaker, which adds to the easy, modern feel.
What makes the place stand out is the sense of retreat you get in the shared outdoor setting. The property sits among pines with trails on site, and there’s a shared cedar sauna for winding down after a day exploring the coast, plus boardwalk-style pathways through the trees that give it a calm, purposeful feel.
It’s a great pick if you want something a bit different from a standard hotel, particularly for a couple of nights on the South Shore where you can enjoy Mahone Bay on foot, then head out easily to places like Lunenburg and the surrounding coastline. Practicalities are straightforward too, with WiFi and parking included, and contactless check-in keeping everything low-fuss.
