Hotel overview

Ashlea House is a Victorian heritage home in Lunenburg, built in 1886 and beautifully restored, so it still has that sense of grandeur the moment you step inside. It feels classic and welcoming rather than formal, with elegant period features balanced by the comforts you actually want after a day out exploring.

The location is a real strength. You’re on Falkland Street and it’s an easy stroll down to the waterfront and into Old Town via the Historic Lunenburg Harbour Walk, which makes it ideal if you want to park up and explore on foot.

Rooms are charming and comfortable, all air-conditioned and set up with a queen bed, TV, bathrobes and a hairdryer. If you’re hoping for views, the Bluenose room is the one with the full harbour outlook, while the Mayflower room has the option of an adjoining room with two single beds, which can work well if you’re travelling as a family.

Mornings are a highlight here, with a three-course breakfast included, plus WiFi and parking to keep things easy. Access is simple too, with a key code provided for arrival. It’s worth noting the house doesn’t have a lift, and the ground floor still involves a few steps from outside, but for most travellers it’s a lovely, characterful base in one of Nova Scotia’s most atmospheric coastal towns.
