Based in a striking mountainous location in the Torra Conservancy of central Damaraland, D Camp as it is affectionately known is a high class Wilderness Safaris base, perfect for discovering the unique landscapes, wildlife and culture of the area. An eco-tourism success story, the camp is part owned by the local community of Herero and Nama-Damara people. This gives a fascinating slant to cultural activities, with a local school and farm homestead to visit, but the focus is still very much on the outstanding flora and fauna of this distinctive region. Game drives and guided walks often involve scenery chewing and panoramic photo opportunities as much as searching for desert adapted wildlife. Despite this, desert elephant, frequently pass through, as well as oryx, springbok, kudu and occasionally big cats. Sundowner drives to the most scenic spots are included, while for longer stays, drives out to search for black rhino in Palmwag or view ancient rock art in Twyfelfontein can be requested.

Accommodation consists of ten thatched chalets raised on stilts to maximise the views, well-spaced out for privacy and refurbished in 2008 to offer high standards of comfort. Each has a spacious viewing deck, en-suite bathroom, dressing area and large, comfortable beds. Centrally, there is a thatched bar and restaurant, a refreshing swimming pool and a boma where meals and drinks can be taken around a campfire. With varied outstanding accommodations in Damaraland, each has their own strengths, and Damaraland Camp is very much about the people and landscapes.
