La Fortuna Waterfall & Chocolate Tour

Your tour today will begin with a 2 hour 'chocolate experience' where you will learn about the production of one of Central America's most famous exports, from the harvesting of the fruit to the drying and grinding of the cacao bean, right through to sampling some of the finished product! You will then transfer to La Fortuna waterfall for a gentle hike to enjoy the views and perhaps take a refreshing swim in its natural pool.

Tenorio & Rio Celeste hiking excursion

A two-hour drive north west of Arenal brings you to the sleepy Tenorio region, its volcano and national park of the same name much less-frequented than Arenal. The national park here is home to some superb (if challenging) hiking through dense rainforest trails and past thermal mud pots. Star of the show is the Rio Celeste waterfall. The water’s unique reaction to the minerals coating the rocks on the river bed here turns the pool of water an impossible shade of turquoise.

Stand-up pedal boarding on Lake Arenal

Arenal is one of the largest lakes in Central America and its calm waters are the perfect place to try out a new sport - pedal boarding. You will be collected from your hotel and driven to the western shores of the lake, which offer superb views of the volcano if the weather is clear. After a full briefing and time to practise, your guide will then lead you on a route around this scenic section of the lake. A snack is included to help you refuel, and total duration is approximately four hours.

Arenal 1968 Reserve

A great alternative to the busy Arenal Volcano National Park, the Arenal 1968 Reserve takes its name from the most devastating eruption of the volcano in living memory. Though the 1968 eruption claimed 78 lives (and a small shrine can be found here commemorating the victims), the hiking trails in this reserve cover completely safe designated areas of beautiful national park through lush forests leading to a section of original volcanic lava flows. You’ll also be able to enjoy some wonderful views of the lake, before finishing the walk at the main observatory. Enjoy a drink and snack before transferring back to your hotel.

Arenal Volcano National Park & Ecotermales hot springs

This afternoon tour takes you on a gentle walk through the main Arenal Volcano national park where you will explore the well-marked trails with a specialist guide, looking for some of the flora and fauna to be found in the surrounding forests. You will also see evidence of the devastating 1968 eruption and reach the edge of the old lava flows. After your tour you will be driven to the Ecotermales complex, four kilometres outside the centre of La Fortuna. The tranquil forest setting here makes it a wonderful place to soak your limbs in a series of thermal pools, a particularly atmospheric experience as night falls. A simple but hearty dinner is also included in your entrance ticket.
