Taj Mahal at Sunrise

Excursion Overview

The Taj Mahal was described by Rudyard Kipling as 'the embodiment of all things pure' and it is widely regarded as the most beautiful building in the world. This magnificent mausoleum of white marble was built between 1631 and 1648 by Shah Jahan as a memorial to this third wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died giving birth to their third child. We highly recommend visiting The Taj Mahal at different times of the day when the white marble reflects the nuances of the changing light from the sun. Sunrise is a wonderful time to visit, before throngs of tourists arrive later in the morning and afternoon. During this time the soft light provides an excellent opportunity for photographs. Your guide will collect you early morning from your nearby accommodation. When you enter, do take the opportunity to find yourself a quiet corner to sit awhile. You only need to move a hundred metres from where everyone else walks and you could be a million miles away.
