The Hoysala temples at Belur and Halebid offer some of the finest artistic examples from one of the most gallant periods in ancient Hindu development. Hassan, which is now a rustic village, was once the capital of the powerful Hoysala dynasty.  Several large temples have survived here: Hoysaleshvara and Kedareshvara are the most rewarding and your guide will walk you around them. These are adorned with exquisite carvings. Belur, that sits on the Yagachi River, was the Hoysala capital prior to Halebid. The Chennakeshava temple found here is still active.
