Kiba Point is an exclusive-use camp, standing just a few kilometres downstream from its sister lodge, Sand Rivers. Operating as a private camp, deep in the Selous and far away from other lodges, this really is a perfect hideaway for families or groups of friends wanting to get away from it all.

There are four enormous en-suite open-fronted suites (one with an enclosed childrens bedroom adjoining), all slightly set back from the Rufiji River and each with a private plunge pool. The main area is huge and airy, with an additional little pool and lots of space for relaxation and play.

With its own private guide and camp staff, you really have the freedom to explore Nyerere National Park to your own timetable and on your own terms. The camp is run by the incredibly experienced Nomad Tanzania and they offer one of the most varied array of activities in the park, from game drives and walking safaris, to boating, fishing, day trips to Steiglers Gorge and fly-camping.

There is nothing more exciting than setting off at sunrise for a game drive with your professional guide, the cool air of the morning adding to the anticipation and excitement of what the day will bring. All of our guides for Tanzania are trained to the highest level, with incredible knowledge of the country’s flora and fauna; this knowledge is not limited to the larger mammals, but includes the wider bio system and how each and every bird, animal, plant and insect plays their part in the circle of life. Game drives are often split into morning and afternoon activities, with the earlier slot departing as the sun rises and returning you to your camp or lodge mid-morning. The afternoon safari activity usually departs at around 15.30-16.00 and returns just after sunset. Some camps and lodges offer full day game drives for those that want to explore a little further afield, where you can bring a picnic lunch and find a shady spot to rest and enjoy it in the wilderness. Whether you choose a morning, afternoon or full day safari activity, you are sure to see something new on each and every game drive; keep your eyes peeled, because you never know what’s just around the next corner or bush…

Boat Safari in Nyere National Park

Boat safaris are usually organised as a morning or afternoon activity and are included within the cost of your stay in Nyere National Park. Allowing you to see the wildlife from a completely different perspective, the quiet nature of the boat (in comparison to a game drive vehicles) allows you to get closer to wildlife residing in the water as well animals taking a drink at the water's edge. Cruising effortlessly and comfortably along the lake and river systems of the Rufiji, passing hippos, crocodiles, baboons, buffalos, elephant and giant kingfisher, is one of Tanzania's safari highlights. We recommend at least one afternoon boat safari during a visit to Nyere National Park, allowing you to watch the light of the setting sun reflect on the water in a truly breath-taking show of natural beauty.

Walking Safari in Nyere National Park

Nyere National Park offers some of the best opportunities for walking activities in Tanzania. Naturally at a slower pace, the focus of a walking safari is on the smaller aspects of the ecosystem that get missed when driving, but are of no less importance and intrigue - flora, insects, tracks and dung. That being said, Nyere is home to the Big 5 and so walks are always led by an armed guide and ranger, as you never know what lies around the corner! Walks will generally take place in the early morning as this is the coolest time of the day so walkers leave camp after a cup of tea/coffee and have breakfast on their return. Typically walking safaris take 2-3 hours to cover a couple of miles, so suitable for most capabilities and fitness levels. Treading softly on foot through the bush, never quite knowing what discovery will unfold, is one of the best ways to explore this beautiful park.
