Airport hotels are seldom wonderful affairs, but the Protea at Johannesburh Airport is sensibly priced, offers free shuttles to and from the terminal buildings, and has spacious business suites decorated in a contemporary and elegant fashion. In the public areas exposed brickwork and chrome create a modern, urban feel – but this is not a pretentious design-hotel, it simply gives you a bit of character: something usually lacking in airport hotels!
