The Noku is a rare find in Kyoto – a charming, mid-range hotel in a great part of the city for sightseeing, dining and (should you wish to) escaping the crowds.  On the southwest corner of the Imperial Palace Park, the nearby wide-open space feels a world away from the hectic-by-comparison Downtown, but accessing the treasure trove of attractions around Kyoto is still a breeze.  A mere 10-minutes on foot from Nijo Castle, and 10-minutes by taxi (or a few stops on the subway) from Kyoto Station, the Noku is perfectly perched for any travellers’ action-packed itinerary.

Guestrooms are pragmatically sized, but the airy space and light-wood furnishings give an impression that they are much larger.  Walls are panelled or imitation shoji (paper screens) helping the simple interior retain an unmistakably Japanese flavour.   Glorious splashes of woven colour and fabric features sit at the head of each bed – kimono-esque patterns, all sourced from Kyoto itself, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the city.  The famous Nishijin district, Kyoto’s traditional textile centre, is not too far away, north of the hotel, and this certainly shows in the choice of decor throughout the property.

Justifiably one of our most popular options in Kyoto, the Noku is an absolute treat for anyone who wants affordable accommodation, with impeccable service and a genuine artisanal flair.
