Separated by rocky outcrops, Kovalam’s three main beaches are arguably the most popular and most developed of all Kerala’s beach resorts. The main, and most frequented by tourists, is Lighthouse Beach, named after the old Vizhinjam Lighthouse. Here many hotels, restaurants and small shops can be found. The remaining two beaches are Hawah and further south, Samudra Beach. Kovalam is arguably more spoiled than the beaches further north in Kerala, however it is well located with warm golden sands, and is an ideal base for ayurveda treatments and general relaxation. Kovalam can be easily accessed from Trivandrum Airport, which sits just 30 minutes north.
