Bundi is fascinating and exuberant walled city known for its rustic palace, intricate ancient wall paintings and flamboyant step wells; there’s said to be close to 60 within the city alone. Sitting just 37km north of Kota, Bundi is not for the faint hearted; here you’ll find narrow winding lanes lined with independent shops selling anything and everything. The roads are brimming with people, motorbikes and nonchalant cows and the multi-coloured crumbling houses are interspersed with tiny temples and vegetable bazaars. The city dates back to 1241, and in places we suspect little has changed. It’s a wonderful option for those on a longer trip through Rajasthan or those looking for something truly authentic.
