For us a “classic” trip is one that incorporates the major highlights, but also allows a little time for relaxation and includes one or two lesser-known destinations or activities to give you a more rounded experience of Vietnam.
So we’d say the quintessence of Vietnam would include the street life and history of Saigon and Hanoi, the natural beauty of Halong Bay and the Mekong Delta, the unique atmosphere of Hoi An and the fascinating tribal villages set amidst terraced paddy fields of Mai Chau or Sapa. Luckily you can get your fix of beach time at somewhere like Hoi An as well.
