Hotel overview

The Shiba Park is something of an institution, welcoming world travellers through its doors for over 70 years.  With a recent renovation to some of the more 'dated' rooms, the hotel is hiding its age pretty well.  The property is also surprisingly spacious, well-located for exploring the sights, and has some of the most accommodating staff you are likely to find in any big city.

Close to a number of metro stations, within easy reach of both airports and Tokyo train station, and with a wealth of eating options close by, the Shiba Park is in prime real estate - while still remaining a quiet hotel to spend the night.  Breakfast is served in the Old City Grill House - an onsite restaurant that looks like it's been plucked straight out of 1940's San Francisco - and it is, in our humble opinion, one of the best morning buffets in Tokyo.

The Shiba Park is one of the better options for families visiting the city - with large quad rooms available, and cots for the very-little ones.  The location also makes it easy to get to the Disney resorts or to Akihibara by train, and you are only a short walk from Hamarikyu gardens and the Sumida river cruise to Odaiba.

Visit the leading Zen temple of Engakuji, the towering bronze Daibutsu Buddha statue in Kotokuin, and the Jodo sect's Hasedera - one of the most impressive and atmospheric temples around.  When you've had your fill of religious monuments, hop on the antique Enoden railway as you clackety-clack your way back to Komachi-dori, a charming street of food stalls and craft shops. Kamakura is well positioned to visit on a full day trip from Tokyo itself, but can also be reached when travelling to or from the Hakone region.  The nearby beaches make this coastal town a worthy escape from the humidity of the city when the summer heat is turned up to maximum.

Treat yourself to something special for lunch with this dining experience in Tokyo's exciting streets.  So many incredible culinary experiences are missed by visitors to this city, due to being perceived as 'inaccessible' - hidden behind closed doors or indecipherable menus.
