The Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre, which is located about an hour's drive from Phnom Penh, cares for more than 100 rescued sun bears. This rewarding day will allow guests to learn the art of caring for bears, and how the centre is helping free more bears from captivity.
An early morning (7.30am) start will see guests transferred to the sanctuary, where they will be greeted by staff from Free the Bears - a charitable organization set up by Australian Mary Hutton to protect the world's bears. The bears at Phnom Tamao may have faced death or a torturous life being ""farmed"" for the Asian food or medicine trades. Instead they now live in 21 large enclosures, spread across seven hectares of forested land.
After visiting the various bear houses, guests will be able take part in the fun activity of preparing toys. A simple Khmer-style picnic lunch will then be served before guests have the chance place food in the bears' enclosures and watch them enjoy their lunch.
After leaving Phnom Tamao, the journey back to Phnom Penh includes a stop at Tonle Bati Temple, an Angkor-style temple which is one of the best preserved and most picturesque in Cambodia.
