Taroudant is one of the oldest fortified cities in Morocco, and considering its significant status in the country's history it doesn't get half as much attention as it deserves. It is often referred to as 'Little Marrakesh' due to its ramparts around a bustling souq, and the beautiful of Taroudant is that it's much quieter and everything feels a bit calmer and slower.

On this half-day Taroudant tour you'll be joined by a professional guide and the souqs and markets are the focus; although smaller in scale than Marrakesh, each has its own distinct atmosphere and focus. The Arab souq, leading off the Place Assarag in the heart of the medina, is the place for traditional arts and crafts: silverware, leather, traditional jewellery and so on. The lanes are narrow and covered and its reminiscent of the Marrakesh souqs.

The Berber souq, slightly deeper into the medina, is a more everyday affair selling meat, vegetables and spices: the colours and smells make it an interesting place to wander around. Taroudant is situated in a fertile part of Morocco, so there is a lot of produce grown in the local are that your guide will tell you all about. You’ll also get the chance to visit the ramparts and if you ask your guide you can visit the tanneries (where they process and dye leather goods) as well – if you can stand the smell!
