Excursion Overview
Possibly dating back as far as the 4th century BC, the ruins at Khor Rori have been identified as the town of Sumhuram, a coastal town probably established to dominate the frankincense trade. It’s a remarkable archaeological site, with the outline of the settlement clearly discernible and the ruins of houses and buildings rising to almost their original height in places. It’s one of the few places where you can really get to grips with Oman’s ancient history.
