Five years in the making, the Petra Museum is now open to visitors. Built near the entrance to the archaeological park, you step into the past with archaeological finds from the 2,000-year-old capital of the Nabataeans. The galleries start with the Stone Age and continue onto the present day, opening with a focus on the sophisticated engineering that supplied water to the ancient desert city. The museum's sophistication continues with their installation of an animated floor projection, which traces the emergence of the Nabataeans. A real treat for visitors is to view the second-century stone block inscribed “Petra Metropolis”, which is one of the few surviving mentions of the Greek city name. With this new lease of life inside the gateway to Petra, visitors now come away with a more intimate understanding of this significant historical site.
