Visit a number of artisan shops this morning, to really appreciate the magical craftsmanship and age-old artistry that is still practised in this modern city today.
Your guide will escort you between studios and stores, dotted around the various chaya (teahouse) historical districts of Kanazawa, to learn more about the rich local heritage. You will get the chance to watch (and sometimes try) a number of traditional techniques, including working with gold-leaf, kimono-dying and maki-e (decorative lacquerwear). You will have the opportunity to stock up on souvenirs too - we highly recommend purchasing some Kutani porcelain, if your luggage allowance is generous enough to bring it all home!
We offer tailor-made holidays to suit a wide range of tastes. Our experts Emma and Fenton are dedicated to all things Japan and are here to help you plan your perfect trip.
