The reconstructed Hiroshima Castle contains an informative museum and the panoramic views over the city from the keep are wonderful, but even a walk around the moat and gardens is a great way to spend some free time.  Plenty of fascinating museums in the city deserve some of your time too, depending on your interests.  These include the Museum of Fine Art, the MOCA for contemporary art, and even the Mazda Museum to learn more about the century-long history of one of Japan's most beloved automotive exports.

For those looking to use Hiroshima as a 'base', the city is well-positioned to head to neighbouring jewels in the Setouchi region, including the art island of Naoshima, historic Kurashiki and the many picturesque islands dotted throughout the Inland Sea.
