For those not lucky enough to be moving on to a full-scale Skeleton Coast Safari, scenic flights can provide a breathtaking overview of the desert, coast and mountains that are all within short distance of Swakopmund. Durations and exact routes can vary, so you might head south towards Sossusvlei or north through western Damaraland and up towards the Skeleton Coast National Park.

Whatever the route, you'll be privy to some utterly spectacular views, with the pilot able to vary altitude and give you a range of perspectives to admire. On a flight of roughly one hour's duration, you might catch sight of lonely animals in the midst of the desert or a shipwreck up the Atlantic Coast. This area can be weather beaten, with mists and rain moving in to restrict visibility and sometimes even forcing cancellation of flights, but in clear conditions this is an absolutely stunning experience for keen flyers.
