For those without the time or inclination to enjoy a Trans Kalahari walk, there are less demanding, unguided treks available at our preferred Southern Kalahari accommodations. Red Dunes Lodge has four, clearly marked and extremely scenic walking trails, ranging from five to 20km and taking anything from 45 minutes to four hours. Alternatively, you can request a special walking guide for a full day tramp within 10,000 acres of pristine African wilderness.

Hiking tours are also possible in the 100sq km Gondwana Kalahari Park, pre-bookable for guests staying at Kalahari Farmhouse. There are unguided bush walks on the private ranch at Bagatelle, where sociable meerkats freely roam. These trails are well marked on sign posts and trees, and there is again the option of heading out with a guide should you prefer. Wherever you're staying, there is a great feeling of tranquillity and timeless nature when exploring the unspoiled Kalahari Desert on foot.
