The outstanding game drives within the Savute area can vary considerably depending upon the time of the year. It's usually an early start for breakfast before setting off on a drive as the sun slowly rises: a cool but utterly enchanting time to be on the road, as the bush slowly wakes up and wildlife emerges to face the day. Elsewhere, in the scrubby woodland areas close to camp and on the marsh itself, lion and hyena are the dominant predators, while big herds of elephant can be seen for most of the year and there are some notable solitary old bulls that your guide will identify. Prides of lion in this area have actually been known to hunt elephants during more desperate times, captured for posterity on nature documentaries that you might well have seen, Night drives are not possible as Savute is within the Chobe National Park, but you might still see leopard in the scattered kopjes close to camp.
