The private Ongava Reserve, just outside the southern Etosha gate, is an outstanding safari destination in its own right. Virtually of the animals that you might find within the park are present inside the reserve, including exceptional numbers of rhino. As a private concession, night drives are permitted and Ongava is unquestionably the best place to enjoy walking safaris around Etosha. Tracking white rhino on foot is often the main focus, combined with an initial game drive to locate the rhinos. Shorter daytime walks provide participants with an insight into the smaller details of the bush rather than guaranteeing big game sightings, but guided walks can provide an enjoyable break from Etosha and Ongava drives. With some of the best accommodation in Namibia also on offer, it is no wonder that many visitors due to splash out on Ongava when visiting the Etosha region.
