Arguably Namibian Wildlife Resort’s most ambitious project to date, the brand new Dolomite Camp has allowed access to far western Etosha for the first time in decades. Opened to much fanfare in 2011, this really is a privileged location, isolated and wild. The western Galton Gate to Etosha is currently only open to camp guests, so you really are likely to see no other vehicles or people. There are 18 Standard Chalets of a similar standard to those at NWR’s eastern Etosha Onkoshi Camp, and two Deluxe Chalets with private plunge pool and extra space and privacy. As with Onkoshi, a raised walkway connects the rooms with the main lodge, where there is a stylish lounge, dining area, and a decked swimming pool that boasts outstanding views over this remote sector of the park.

There are numerous waterholes within easy driving distance, attracting significant volumes of wildlife to view on morning and afternoon game drives. The geology and vegetation of this area of the park is very different to that further east, with mopane woodland and dolomite formations in great evidence, so an ideal Etosha itinerary would combine both areas. Although there may be some teething issues with service in such a new camp, Dolomite is probably Etosha’s most exciting recent development.
