Located some 12 kilometres from Petra, the Hayat Zaman Village (previously known as the Taybet Zaman) is located almost entirely within the buildings of an Ottoman village. The village was almost completely deserted and by locating the hotel there, it has been revived. The rooms are in the original houses and so each is unique, with thick, rough-dressed sandstone walls, linked by narrow streets shaded by trees and fragrant bougainvillea. The furnishings in the room combine modern comfort and luxury with dashes of Ottoman style and heritage. At the heart of the old village is a souq and open area for live, traditional Arab entertainment, and the restaurants serve an excellent mix of Arab and Western food, although like most of the hotels in Petra, the hotel does not serve alcohol.
