In a picturesque location on an expansive grassy plain in the shadow of the Naukluft Mountains, around 30 minutes’ drive from the towering dunes of Sossusvlei, Desert Homestead offers a combination of comfort and varied activities that make it perfect for two to three night stays. Accommodation is in 20 spacious stone chalets with thatched roofs, minimalist furnishings and cool colour tones inside. Each has a private veranda boasting sweeping views out to the plains and mountains, with some truly spectacular sunsets providing a perfect backdrop for a relaxing sundowner. These vistas can also be enjoyed from the refreshing swimming pool and the open sided main lodge and restaurant, while there is a cosy lounge to retreat to in more extreme weather conditions.
Guided tours of Sossusvlei can be booked at the lodge or in advance, and Desert Homestead is perfect for horse riders, with an excellent stable, dedicated riding guides and a range of day trips or overnight expeditions into the desert. With all this on offer, it is surprising that Desert Homestead is also very attractively priced compared to some of its neighbours, making it one of the best options for Sossusvlei.
