Day 1
Depart the UK and fly to Vancouver today. Once you’ve arrived and settled in, enjoy an early evening stroll along the waterfront and treat yourself to a meal at one of the city's many fabulous restaurants.
Day 2
Spend the day exploring Vancouver. There’s plenty to see and do, but perhaps start with a leisurely stroll around Stanley Park—keep an eye out for the totem poles and scenic waterfront views. Later, take the ferry to Granville Island to check out the market, where you can sample local food, browse artisan stalls, and enjoy the lively atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot to get a feel for Vancouver’s unique charm.
Day 3
Pick up your hire car this morning and drive along the scenic Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler. This afternoon, take a ride on the Peak2Peak Gondola for stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Day 4
You have a free day to enjoy the adventure capital of the world! Why not head to the lakes and rent a canoe or kayak? If you want to get into the wild side of Whistler, take a bear-viewing tour into the mountains and keep your eyes peeled for black bears. If you want to get your feet off the ground, you can zip through the forest on a zip line or hop on a plane to take a scenic flight over the Whistler mountains. However you spend your time in Whistler, you'll be sure to find adventure.
Day 5
Drive from Whistler to Wells Gray Provincial Park today—a fairly long but scenic journey. You will pass through several lovely little country towns, such as Lillooet and Cache Creek, and past some beautiful viewpoints, where I recommend you get out of the car, stretch your legs, and enjoy a picnic in the park.
Day 6
Today is your day to explore Wells Gray. There are plenty of walking trails to keep you busy, and these can be self-explored, or if you want to find out more about the flora and fauna, a guided hike is a great way to learn about the area. Be sure to check out Helmcken Falls, Spahats Falls, Dawson Falls, and Bailey's Chute, which are all easily accessible.
Day 7
Continue your journey east to Jasper, following the North Thompson River Valley for the first stretch. As you turn into the Yellowhead Pass, you will (weather permitting) get fantastic views of Mount Robson, the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies.
Day 8
Take a drive to Maligne Lake and enjoy a cruise to Spirit Island to find out about its significance to the Stoney Nakoda First Nation. Be sure to stop at Maligne Canyon, and head out on the canyon walk, keeping an eye out for moose, which are often spotted in this area
Day 9
Today takes you along one of the world’s most scenic drives, the Icefields Parkway, with spectacular Rocky Mountain scenery the whole way. You'll need a day just to take in some of the famous viewpoints, such as Athabasca Falls, Sunwapta Falls, the Columbia Icefields, and Bow Lake. Get your cameras ready!
Day 10
Today is a day to enjoy the lakes. We recommend rising early to beat the crowds and heading down to the lakefront, where you can rent a canoe or set out on the Lakeshore Trail, which will take you up to the Lake Agnes Tea House, where you can enjoy a cup of tea. Once you have soaked up all that fresh mountain air, head down to Banff, only a short drive away.
Day 11
With your day in Banff, we recommend taking a ride on the gondola for amazing 360-degree views. There is also an interesting interpretive centre at the top. Afterwards, have a look around town, visit the Cave & Basin National Historic Site, or drive to nearby Lake Minnewanka for further lakefront views.
Day 12
Depending on your departing flight time, you may have a final morning in Banff or time to look around the little town of Canmore, which is en route to Calgary Airport. Take an overnight flight back to the UK.

This is a superb self-drive itinerary through the stunning landscapes of Western Canada—a classic route that takes you from the vibrant city of Vancouver, through the mountains and valleys of British Columbia, and into the breath-taking Rocky Mountains of Alberta. While the distances between stops can be long, the spectacular scenery invites frequent photo stops and rewards you with views that make the journey as memorable as the destinations.
