During your cruise there will be a number of shore excursions available to you. Whilst exact options vary depending on which cruise company you use and which route you are taking, there is normally an excellent selection of wildlife, scenery or culture orientated excursions. Some examples of popular shore excursions are as follows:

– Juneau: despite its remote location, Juneau is the capital of Alaska. Here you will have time to wander around the town but can also partake in activities such as bear or whale watching, kayaking, sea-plane exploration, foodie tasting tour, a helicopter glacier trek and much more.

– Ketchikan: the colourful weatherboard houses of this delightful little fishing town provide some excellent photographic opportunities. To explore further afield go looking for bears by floatplane, visit a rainforest sanctuary, join a canoe safari or take a cultural tour of the town.

– Skagway: as the gateway to the goldfields Skagway has a rich heritage, reflected in the restored buildings and wooden boardwalks. Take a city tour, have a go at zip-lining, try your hand at gold-panning or take a ride on the famous White Pass Railway.

Depending on which cruise company you are travelling with some or all of the shore excursions are charged however all can be booked in advance so you can be sure of what you are doing before you embark.
