Belmond’s Sanctuary Lodge is the only hotel located right next to the entrance to Machu Picchu. Though guests of the hotel do not get privileged access to the ruins outside regular opening hours, the convenience of not having to take the bus up from the town to visit the ruins is certainly a big advantage. Somewhat inevitably, a stay here comes at quite a premium but those prepared to splash out will find comfortable rooms, excellent levels of service and beautiful gardens with mountain views. The hotel has two restaurants, one exclusively for guests, and for your down-time between excursions you could arrange to have an open-air massage in the gardens.
