4×4 vehicles have partly supplanted the camel as the favoured transport of the desert Bedouin, and in their skilled hands the Toyotas and Landrovers seem to be able to climb any dune and navigate a path through the trickiest bits of the desert. There is a real skill in this, and you can admire it whilst enjoying the unique thrill of cresting a sandy peak and watching the whole desert vista open up below you.
