Wolwedans has been an institution in Namibian tourism for the last 15 years, its continued development intrinsically tied up with that of the Namibrand Nature Reserve itself. Their camps are elegant, comfortable and eco-friendly, and Dunes Lodge is the longest running flagship of the operation. The lodge and its nine large chalets are perched atop a dune plateau, with panoramic vistas in each direction taking in desert, mountains and plains. The rooms are constructed from canvas and wood, perched on stilts to enhance the views and move guests away from the harsh desert floor during hotter months. Each has an enclosed en-suite bathroom, private veranda and canvas blinds that can be rolled back to maximise the views and provide a feeling of sleeping under the stars.

There is a swimming pool raised above the sand, two lounge and dining areas and a range of scenery chewing relaxation spots on decking. Décor throughout combines vintage safari with Germanic colonial, all tastefully done. Food at all the Wolwedans properties is a top priority, with an educational scheme teaching budding Namibian chefs the nuances of fine, European style dining. Activities centre around nature drives and guided walks in the reserve, which is diverse enough in terms of scenery and wildlife to support a fascinating, varied three night stay.
