The Capaldi, although a relative newcomer, has a strong claim to be the best hotel in the Atlas Mountains. A scattering of low-rise, traditionally-styled brick and tadlakht (smooth plaster) buildings are dotted through lush, landscaped gardens concealing two pools. Inside the feeling is of a beautifully-styled home: warm and friendly with decoration and furniture of the highest standard. Traditional Moroccan pieces with intricate wooden carving are married with modern, funky artefacts and soft, earthen tones. There’s a gorgeous and relaxing spa, and the restaurant has established an enviable reputation, with Michelin-trained chefs using modern, European techniques and traditional Moroccan ingredients. The Capaldi is like the perfect country house getaway, with the dramatic Atlas Mountains as its backdrop, and is a wonderful place to spend a couple of days.
